Freezing!

We have had frost in 4 of the last 6 days.  As I weeded this morning, the areas of the nursery that were in the shade were still frozen.  I would hit the ground with the hoe and it would make a crunching sound.  I am still weeding around the trees because the weeds are going crazy.  Every time we catch up, it starts to rain.  If I don't have time to pick the weeds up, the weeds often times stick to the ground and re-root themselves.  Oh well it is not really something to complain about.  I ate too much on Thanksgiving, but had fun with family playing cards.  I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving! Now if only I can make it through Christmas....

Eating Turkey/playing cards…..

I hope everyone is having a good Thanksgiving.  I helped my wife cook all day. We have Thanksgiving dinner at our house.  We just finished eating and we are playing cards.  I am blogging because I lost quite early.  It is nice to see family, enjoy food and have a good time.  I am thankful for all that I have.  In a little while I will start playing cards again and enjoy some homemade pie.  Don't eat too much and don't get caught up in all the retail hype,,,,,,,,,,,,

Pruning, weeding,digging…

Today was drizzling and damp outside.  I worked on digging a few trees out of the ground to become future bonsai's.   I dug out some elms, trident maples, red pines and black pines.  I just dig enough to keep my benches full for future sales.  I have also been weeding around the base of the trees in the field to keep the weeds away.  I think Mother Nature is winning.  I keep weeding, she keeps giving me weeds.  At least I don't have to water for awhile.............

Pruning trees/Planning for Marco.

I have been working on trimming back the trident maples.  The leaves have mostly fell off and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to prune them.  I also weed the area that I am pruning.  The last few days have been quite cold.  We had our first frost a few days ago.  That is quite early for us.  Our bonsai club and a couple of our members will be working with Marco Invernizzi,  Marco is a world renown bonsai artist.  If you would like to see his web site, it is at marcoinvernizzi.com  Marco studied and apprenticed for Masahaki Kimura.  Master Kimura is considered one of the Worlds best bonsai artists.  Two of our club members will be working with him individually and our club gets him for a day.  If you have never worked with Marco, you should make a point of watching or working with him when he is in the area.  Marco is knowledgeable and very entertaining.  If you take your best tree to work on with Marco, he will improve your tree immensely and also improve your skills as a bonsai artist.
